When I am designing for myself, I try to create something to fill an absence. For example, my information design poster was birthed out of needless copays at my gynecologist that came from a lack of education of my own anatomy in my sex education courses. It actually would have saved some embarrassment too...but this project ultimately created a conversation that was fun and validating between me and people who could also identify with the content. There was another piece of work not shown here I designed that was children's book meant to educate kids on emotional literacy that also created a similar conversation. Design can create comfortable spaces for people to converse and feel validated especially when the design itself is warm, fun, and inviting- my goals. If I'm not creating those spaces with my work, often times I am just trying to make something pretty and that follows CRAP.
